Dave Despain

 My Interview with Dave Despain

Dave Despain - by far the most recognized personality in motor-sports journalism. As a kid, this man's voice was piped into my house as my dad and older brother watched virtually any coverage of motorcycle racing.
Over the last 50 years, this voice has interviewed every single one of the titans of motorsports racing - and now he is letting ME interview HIM!  From ABC's Wide World of Sports, to ESPN, Speed and MAVTV, my sit down with Dave Despain offers a unique insight on how he got started and his career highlights. Click HERE to see the interview on MAVTV.

There I was just hanging out and telling stories at the 2014 Overland Expo, a big yearly gathering of fellow off-road enthusiasts, when I thought I saw Dave Despain.  I didn't think it could really be THE Dave Despain, but then it hit me - yes, it really was him. He actually agreed to sit down with me and share his career and motorcycle riding experience.

Ticket to Ride

We're always looking for a little help.  I KNOW you have some ideas for people to feature, places to film and stories to shoot. Some times we get so caught up in the current project that we lose sight of what’s in front of us.  Kind of like that guy in the car next to you, texting on his “smart” phone.  How many times have you wanted to kick that guy’s door and gesture for him to hang up and drive! Well, don’t kick my door.  Instead shoot me an email or visit the “Ticket to Ride” section on our website and offer us some ideas. We'd love to hear from you!

Our New Online Store

Our Online Store

Another way you can help out is to shop for gear in our new store! Yeah, it’s not much right now but the stuff that's in there, I think is pretty cool.

Inergy - Power to Go

Check out these really amazing solar generators by Inergy that are light weight, and they charge QUICKLY!  Now, we have some pretty sick power requirements around camp 'cause we have cameras, laptops, hard drives, etc.  You might not need what WE got but certainly check out the smaller more reasonable options, like the Firefly. You can certainly power up your camp, listen to music, charge your phone, whatever.  They are just plain handy.

Wolfman Luggage

If you don’t need anything on the tech side of the house, go ahead and grab yourself some of that Wolfman Luggage that you've been eyeballing. If you like soft bags, these win! Eric and the Wolfman team are really making some great gear that takes a beating! He has been super cool to us while we were getting things started with this project and we’d like to help him out in any way we can. So, we are excited to offer Wolfman products in our store.
Yes, I know that you might see this stuff cheaper somewhere else.  But, if you get it from us, you help me pay the crew that works tirelessly putting up with my endless rantings, so that we can deliver these stories that are so fun to bring you.  So, if you are here, you probably liked something we did. It didn’t cost anything, so if you DO need something, I’d love it if you’d check here first.

Now... When are we riding?

Delhi Survival Guide

Delhi. Close your eyes and listen. You'll hear a veritable symphony of sounds ranging from vehicle engine noise, horns honking, spiritual chanting and so many dialects of various languages you wonder how anyone can communicate. Well, they can, in so many different kinds of ways. Like the blind have heightened senses of hearing, take a second to listen. Delhi speaks to you but only IF you shut off for a second.

The first thing you have to understand is that when you hear a horn honking, no one is about to run you over, no one is about to hit you and no one is flipping you off.  As an American, hearing a horn blasting causes a pavlovian-like response that a skid and crunch are the next sounds to follow. Here in India, drivers actually drive with their horns.

Delhi Belly

Delhi Belly-noun: Diarrhea or dysentery contracted from eating Indian (i.e., from India) food. Also Karachi crouch.

In Mexico it is known as a bout of Montezuma's revenge, in India a case of Delhi Belly. But whatever is called, it is common. Of course I have heard about it and if I hadn't, I'd be an expert by now. Not because I contracted it, but because every time I check in or touch base with friends and family in the States, invariably their first question is related to my lower gastrointestinal fortitude. It's a rather personal question, don't you think? But hey, I'm all about bathroom humor, just not so frequent or about a specific place.

Welcome to Delhi!

I'm in New Delhi, India, a place on the map that I had only been to once before and I am beyond excited for this trip. My last visit here was under very different circumstances. I had come to India just after the coordinated terror attacks at the Intercontinental Hotel to evaluate the risks of business continuity in a region that is so vastly different than the United States. I found it fascinating! Although, the project took a different turn, my curiosity about India as a country, culture and home to a variety amazing wonders, grew profoundly.
